Lost foam

Lost foam is one of the most innovatory casting techniques. It works on the principle of creating a model from polystyrene or a cellular material identical to the final part required and then sublimating it with molten metal during the pouring process in the foundry.

The creation of a “lost model” makes possible:

  • Reduction of casting costs
  • Reduction of shavings
  • Reduction or even removal of the need to machine
  • Production of whole single parts to avoid the need for assembly

This procedure guarantees both a rough cast part in almost its final form, a high degree of dimensional precision and the production of particularly complex hollow geometrical parts.
We have been subcontracting with Lost Foam for many years and increasingly collaborate directly with the specifiers to improve our understanding of their expectations and use our experience of the process to develop the most suitable parts, in partnership with the foundries.
